Dinner Quadro on the 23rd of April 2024

This month’s theme was Germany and held at Quadro.

We had one Riesling and the reds were two P. Noir and a blend.  I am quite curious to know if members prefer having only reds or only whites in the blind tasting so that all four wines are part of the comparison or if the addition of a white in the lineup, which permits us to see if the white or the reds pair best with each dish, is a trend that is being enjoyed by the members.  Do write in with your opinions.

I quite liked the white Riesling and gave it equally high points with the red as did the rest of the diners (on average) but I preferred the Luitmar over the Imperiale which was the member’s co-favourite with the Riesling.  I love P. Noir but this time the blend by Kuhn felt a little better paired with the food and being a softer, less alcoholic and more unusual range of flavour notes as a result of the use of rare varieties together with the international C. Sauvignon and Sangiovese captured my attention.

The least liked wine was the sparkling rose which received a significantly lower vote, one of the lowest we have had.  I think the problem was that it was not served cold enough and so if felt a bit unbalanced and the perlage had faded a bit.  I will try it out again served at the required coldness.

This alternation between Xara and Quadro seems to be working in giving us more variety and less of ‘the same’  we are likely to keep this system for future years
