Ladies Night Rosami at the Villa on the 23rd June

Dear friends,

The evening was noticeably enjoyed by all participants, and Rosami’s staff ensured that we were given the level of attention and professionalism one would expect from a Michelin Star restaurant.

The only negative comments from a few members were about the size of the portions and their not liking the sherries. Every member has a perfect right to express their opinion and as a committee we positively encourage this as it helps us in making our experience better.

Being served big portions at a Michelin-star restaurant that offers only ‘tasting’ type menus was something very few of us really expected, especially since we managed to obtain this one-off experience with 5 courses (the snack canapés are considered a course at Rosami) including non-alcoholic beverages at €80 when their normal fee only for the food is €120 for just one more tasting course. Obviously, if members prefer to always have a more filling standard 3-course dinner +/- canapés and an amuse, this is what we will continue to organise in the future. Please write in and give us your opinion on this.

There has also been a suggestion from a member that the Ladies Night would also be a blind tasting event so that our partners can experience exactly what we enjoy at our monthly event. We would also like to hear your opinions on this – after you sound out your partners on this of course – as many of our partners, including mine, when asked, showed no interest as they just want to have an enjoyable social event with good wines where they can choose to stick to only their preferred poison - which is not possible to have at our tasting dinners. If the majority of our partners confirm that they want the ladies night to be just like our usual tasting event, then we will go for that instead of the usual fine dining experience partially subsidised from club funds.

As for the wines, this time, taking advantage of the venue, we had a paired wine with each course, so 5 separate wines, carefully selected by the club’s wine selection teams to complement each course and fully discussed with the Michelin Star Chef, who approved every choice paired with his dishes. Some diners said that they were not keen on the sherries. This is again a fair and reasonable comment to make as we all have different tastes in wine as well as in food. However, for those diners who already knew they do not like sherries, they had the ability to opt out of the pre-announced pairing and have a white or red wine instead while for those who never tried a sherry wine before and did not like it (a fair few actually said they did), that is one of the advantages of a tasting club where a wide diversity of fine wines are offered and many we will like, others we will love and some we will not – without trying at least once one can never know.

Finally, do be advised that the true cost of this event was €5267.17 so €119.71 per diner. This means that the dinner was subsidised with €49.42 per couple from club funds.

Cheers

Iro
