il-Qatra Wine Club awards the Xara Collection
This year il-Qatra has reached the 25 year landmark from its founding in March 2000 by four lovers of fine wines. This non-profit, self-financing organisation, totally independent of the wine trade, quickly grew to twelve and kept growing till it now has reached its self-imposed limit of 65 members with a modest waiting list.
il-Qatra still remains the only local wine club exploring the fascinating world of wine through the holding of monthly meetings with strict blind tasting of 4 different wines chosen to highlight a selected theme - grape variety, region and/or country, etc - accompanied by a well-planned paired dinner.

This year, to commemorate its founding 25 years ago, the Qatra committee decided to launch award schemes to acknowledge and reward club event venues and wine suppliers who have shown outstanding support to the club and provided quality and a high level of customer relations.

The first award for ‘Exceptional Contribution as Venues’ was given to the Xara Collection which, for the last 3 years, during the dinners organised by the club at OKA’s at the Villa and at the Xara Lodge has provided the best service and support to the club.

The award, in the form of a handsome wall plaque, was presented to the Managing Director of the Xara Collection, Justin Zammit Tabona, by the club chairman Dr Ramiro Cali-Corleo during a blind wine tasting dinner at OKA’s in the presence of the club secretary, Joe Cappello and the Xara Collection Director of Corporate, Luke Cauchi.

Qatra Wine Club strives to educate its members on wine and not just hold wine tastings. Every dinner ends with members voting on the wines they have tasted over the dinner while still ‘blinded’ to their labels and these votes are analysed and a report issued every month. These detailed reports were till recently only available to the members but now can be read by wine lovers everywhere by visiting the ‘Events’ section of the Qatra website at https://www.il-qatra.mt/
