Dinner Xara Lodge on the 24th of January 2023

Dear Friends,

 

First of all, thanks to all of you who have shown such appreciation and complemented last Tuesday's session.  positive responses such as these are the driving force for us as your committee to keep striving to improve.

 

Please find attached the January Qatra wine-tasting report ably prepared for us by Nick Calamatta.  I delayed sending this out as I did not want to send two reports back to back after the November report was justifiably late in being available.

 

Nick had given us some great wines to try.  In particular, I found the Franciacorta Monte Rossa 'Sanseve' Saten Brut truly exceptional and from your vote so did a great many of you,  one would need to pay double to find a Champagne equally enjoyable.

 

The Manzoni Bianco lived up to its reputation and Nick is a firm believer that our tastings can and should have both reds and whites included in the 'four'.  It would be good to hear from as many of you as possible on this.  Personally I enjoy seeing if the red or the white goes best with each of the dishes being a firm believer that it is the 'weight' of the wine which counts most in pairing rather than the colour.

 

Finally, from now on, the report will not be sent as an attachment but posted on our new website.  This will remove the need for sending attachments (sometimes a cause for an email to be blocked) and a chance to improve on the quality.  Naturally, you will be notified when it will be posted.
