Dinner Xara Lodge on the 28th of February 2023

Dear Friends,

 

The February event was my turn with precious help from Albert and David.  We all agreed that it was time for Southern Rhone and so I went for Gigondas, one of my favourite French AOCs.  Fortunately, there are many suppliers for this wine in Malta and the difficulty was not to find the wines to offer at the tasting but to choose which to have.

 

The kitchen at Xara did us proud this time and in my opinion the food was a good pairing for the wine and deserved the many 9/10 it received from the diners.  I particularly enjoyed the chicken consomme’ and the beetroot gnocchi

 

As for the wines, my favourite was ended up being the highest voted, the Ch de Saint Cosme.  This is what can be considered their young wine – if that is so, then I will certainly be trying out its older sisters.  The second favourite was the L’Arginee.  I was told by both suppliers that both these wines were sold out the day after our event.

 

Final thanks goes to the serving staff who did their job smoothly and efficiently.  It was good to see that both the Managing Director of the Xara Collection and the event Director came over to check if all was well.
